Inter-Switch Link between emc and third vender support

Jump to solution

Hello,

Does EMC support Inter-Switch Link configuration between EMC Connectrix and third vender's switch? How / where can we check that?

I generated "Advanced Query Product & Table Relationship Schema" by Advanced Query of E-LAB INTEROPERABILITY NAVIGATOR. But I don't understand how I look at it and what "Legend", "Component" and "Attribute" on the top mean.

Are there any notes for the configuration if the ISL is supported?

Do we need to change the interoperability mode?

The zoning is spreaded correctly?

Hiroki

You can connect a Cisco to a Brocade.  The Brocade will need to be in interop mode (not native Brocade).  On the Cisco you create a VSAN with the ports you want to use for the ISL and you put that VSAN into Cisco's interop mode.  The ISL should come up and you will have to inter-VSAN routing for zoning if you want something on the Cisco to talk to the Brocade.

To put the Brocade into interop mode you have to disable the switch (take it offline).

Hi,

One remark here.

You report to have a DS-6520B.

From Fabric OS 7.1.0 and later, NO interop is supported on Brocade switches. Therefore interop setting on Brocade need to be at 0 (Native).

AND the DS-6520B is ONLY supported in Fabric OS 7.1.0 and up.

So the interop mode as suggest previously will not work.

All settings need to come from the Cisco side to make this work.

Ed

Hello Ed,

A switch person told me after that. "There is no worries because Nexus5596 will get connected as NPV mode to 6520 so F_Port of 6520 will be used. And it's not an ISL config. And the config is on the latest support matrix."

Thank you for advising.

Hi Hiroki,

That is correct. If you have the cisco switch connected as NPIV device, no interop is needed. And the link will be normal as an f-port.

Interop statement will only apply if the nexus is set as a normal switch and not as an NPIV device.

Regards,

Ed
