Dell Venue 8 (Model: T02D) - Less RAM than advertised - Folio Case Did Not Fit
The Problems (so far)
- The Dell website advertised 2GB of RAM in the tablet, but the tablet that I received only has 1GB of RAM.
- The Tablet that was sent to me is Model Number T02D (New Dell Venue 8)
- The "Folio Case" that was sent to me was designed to fit Model Number 3830 (Old Dell Venue 8) It didn't fit...
Customer Support did not seem to be aware of this problem when I called to explain the situation, nor did they acknowledge or understand my explanation of the problem. They insisted that "the Folio Case should fit all versions of the Venue 8 tablet", despite the information that I provided to them confirming otherwise. Customer Support couldn't help me... - My laptop is estimated to be delivered approx 3 weeks after my initial order was placed. That's a long time! (I chose the 2 day shipping option)
History
I purchased a Dell Venue 8 tablet as part of a bundle, when I ordered my Inspiron 15, 7000 Series laptop. I also opted-in to buy a protective "Folio Case" for the tablet. I bought each item based on the specifications that were advertised on the website.
Order Status
Order Date | Item | Status |
7/11/14 | Dell Venue 8 | Delivered |
7/11/14 | Venue 8 Folio Case | Delivered |
7/11/14 | Inspiron 15 7000 Series | In Production |
And Now, I Shall Rant...
So, what's the deal with the huge disconnect occurring at Dell? Hopefully all goes well with my laptop when it finally arrives! I'm spending a lot of money with this company. I expected nothing but the best from a company as established as Dell... (I'll keep my fingers crossed)
Is it typical for Dell to bait-and-switch their products?
I ordered a laptop with 16GB of RAM. Will they send me one with only 8GB? I sure hope not!

That explains it then, they sent you the "new" model when it was released but messed up and sent you the folio for the older one. It appears as though all Dell did was sacrifice RAM memory so they could improve the already low screen resolution while maintaining a price point for the devices. As mentioned in other threads, there's also no magnetometer, no vibration ability, a very poorly place USB / charge port and a continuing list of other issues with these tablets including the screen randomly going black and requiring pressing the power button to get the display back.

Where did you see the "new" android Venue 8 advertised with 2GB of RAM? I read several articles prior to the release date expecting it would come with 2GB (mostly out of disbelief Dell would sell an upgraded product with LESS memory than it's predecessor). I bought the prior model with 2GB in June 2014 and was hoping the newly released model wasn't going to be less memory, and I could get the newest one instead with better screen resolution and hopefully more features that should be included for the asking price. This doesn't seem to be the case now as all the new android models are only listed with 1 GB.
As far as the folio, it is an absolute piece of garbage. The little rubber pads to hold it in landscape mode fell off almost immediately and you have to lay the folio flat and open to charge the tablet.

When I was going through the process of ordering my new Inspiron laptop, I was offered the choice of adding a tablet to my order, for a discounted price (forgot the price). I chose the 8" tablet. It said that the tablet would be 16 GB with 2 GB RAM (Android). I was then prompted to add an accessory. I then selected the Venue 8 "folio case"...
Apparently Dell recently changed the specs on the "new" Venue 8 tablet (reduced to 1 GB RAM, new device body, etc). However, it appears that I placed my order before the website was updated with the "new" information... This resulted in me receiving the "new" Venue 8, with the old style folio case.
Observation: Upon further investigation, it appears that the "new" Venue 8 is using the old Venue Pro body...

If your tablet appears to be using the old Venue Pro body, shouldn't the the fact that they sent you the old folio cover fit the tablet?
If not, why?
Let's see if DELL-Terry B can help you out here?

I think you're going to have to call tech support, (sorry about that), to get this straightened out.
You can try using this form, fill it out and submit it, it will escalate this issue. Give them a few days to get back to you but THEY WILL.
Keep me update.
