delayed or never had?

so i wanted to order a new battery for my xps 15 9560. and the rep said 

""Since what you are looking for is a spare part, please be advised that we currently have limited stocks for this. Please give me a few minutes to check for its availability."" and then said they had it, so i ordered it and estimated delivery was oct 11

but now i get email saying "Due to unforeseen circumstances, your order will take longer to process and ship than previously estimated. Your new estimated delivery date is ‌oct 19.

so did they actually have it and when it came time to ship realized they didn't and now have to delay or never had it and just lied about having it?
