DELL MD1220 (1.01) and HUC156060CSS204

Hi all! I've added 2 HGST drives (HUC156060CSS204) to my MD1220 (that is connected to MD3600f+1200) - MDSM shows "Status: Incompatible" and "Mode incompatible". I'm trying to update firmware from CD02 to EJ24 (from A30_MD32_MD34_MD36_MD38_HDD_Firmware_with_ReadMe package) - system shows that firmware "is compatible" but after I selected my disks, clicked "Finish" and typed "yes" system answers:

Error 249 - The physical disk firmware download operation failed because one or more of the physical disks you selected has a Bypassed or Offline status and is inaccessible. Please make sure the physical disks you selected do not have a status of Bypassed or Offline, and then retry the operation.

What should I do to use my discs?

What is the Dell part# on the drives? For an MD1220 system you have to use Dell drives that already have MD firmware on them to be seen. If the Drive is not on the support matrix for your MD1220 then it will not work in your MD1220.

To be more precise; The MD3k-series requires Dell branded Enterprise Class drives. If an MD1k unit is attached to an MD3k SAN, the same rules apply to the MD1k. However, if you connect the MD1k to a PERC (e.g. H800) controller, the PERC H800 is the one managing the raid, and it is less picky about its drives.

Thank you for quick reply! Will you please tell me where I can find latest Dell Nautilus Utility?

I believe the Nautilus software is for upgrading Dell Enterprise harddrives in Dell PowerEdge servers and can be found under the PowerEdge downloads.

Note that this software will not let you put the Dell firmware on drives that don't already have (older) Dell firmware.

In other words; the Nautilus software won't let you put Dell firmware on non-Dell drives.
