Welcome to the Dell EMC Support Community Ask the Expert conversation.

On this occasion we will be covering Dell EMC Data Protection Suite for Applications. This suite provides unparalleled efficiency while also empowering the application owner to meet stringent SLAs on mission critical applications. By enabling direct backup to Data Domain from either primary storage or the application server, app owners can get up to 20x faster backup and 10x faster recovery. This suite also empowers both application owners and IT Managers in the ways they need it most. App owners can backup directly to Data Domain through native application utilities (like Oracle RMAN®), and IT Managers are given superior copy data management with global oversight of the copy data ecosystem. By enabling them to discover, automate and optimize copies, managers can reduce the hidden risk and cost associated with distributed, self-service copy creation.

the answer is yes in all respects and indeed you don't pay twice

1) the app agent used by ddbea and pp is the same app agent and its just configuration as to what is backed up how and in some cases there is even some smartness as well.  so you can easily do boost, pp, hybrid, flip back and forth, in various ways

2) we also support the app agent and file system agent co installed on the same host to support a number of use cases as well

I recently had a customer ask the following question at a Dell EMC Forum:

"I am a big Oracle shop and want to use DD Boost for Enterprise Apps to empower my DBAs to run their own backups.  However, I also want maintain visibility into all of the backups that have been created.  Is there way to do this with Dell EMC's backup products?  How about with third party backup applications?"

Thank you!

Hi Jay,

I spoke with Yatin about this question, and here's what he had to say:

No, DD Boost for Enterprise Application backups are not visible in the Networker or Avamar backup catalog, if that's the question. We will be able to make it visible in the eCDM catalog but later on.

Let me know if this answers your question!

Thanks

This Ask the Expert event has officially ended, but don't let that retract you from asking more questions. At this point our SMEs, after addressing all questions previously posted, are still welcomed to answer and continue the discussion though not required. Here is where we ask our community members to chime in and assist other users if they're able to come up with accurate information. Additionally, you're welcome to post other questions unrelated to the topic of this ATE on the Data Domain community.

Many thanks to our SMEs who selflessly made themselves available to answer questions. We also appreciate our community members for taking part of the discussion and ask so many interesting questions.

ATE events are made for your benefit as members of DECN. If you’re interested in pitching a topic or Subject Matter Experts we would be interested in hearing it. To learn more on what it takes to start an event please visit our Ask the Expert Program Space on DECN.
