DD is hanging due to faiiled SAS HBA?
OS Version 5.4 DD890
I received an alert message: The SAS HBA in slot 3 has failed. We should have the other HBA in slot 2, shouldn't they be redundant together?
I can log in, but cannot get the command line prompt, it is hanging on "last login ...." message.
GUI is hanging too
I have a left-over putty window, and can type commands, but any one I typed would be hanging there forever.
Any idea what should I do? or do I have to perform "system reboot" at this point? or it is not working, then "system poweroff"?
Thanks you in advance!

You should open a ticket with DD/EMC support.

Are there any Service Process type of connection to diagnose the hardware issues without going through the regular mgmt. connection?
Unfortunately, we don't have contract support now...

Only "bad lights" on the back of the DD I'm afraid. There might be something in BIOS I guess to check components, but I never checked that area of DD.

How do I cold reboot DD? Just to physically power off? and how do I boot off a specified device, hard disk? Can you please provide the booting procedures?
Thanks!

This is exactly why you should have support If your console is stuck (have you tried serial console???) then you can only do hard reset. So, power button is your friend (but try serial console first). Just because you have 2 HBAs it doesn't mean they are configured to be redundant - you should know that based on configuration you had and for what they have been used (and how). I think it pays off to pay one off support call as you may break the things by guessing what to do. For example, you wish to make reboot believing this is the way to go, but it might not be and such step might cause some data loss instead. Think twice.
