Does the 10Gb T cards on the DD 6300 supports autosensing back to 1Gb?

Jump to solution

I need to know if the 10Gb Ethernet cards Base T support 1Gb speeds as autosense?

I'm looking for a specific document that says so .. can't seem to find anything on support or community

Thanks!

Giovanni

I have trawled all the documentation and training that I have for these new models and it's not stated that they also support 1Gb.

I recall that when the DD2500 was released and had the 2 onboard 10000BaseT ports - not many were aware that they could also be 1Gbe and looking back - that never got documented either.

In essence, 10GBaseT moves the supported speed to 100/1000/10000 rather than the 1Gbe NICs as 10/100/1000.

Example;

Port    Speed      Duplex    Supp Speeds      Hardware Address    Physical   Link Status   State

-----   --------   -------   --------------   -----------------   --------   -----------   -------

ethMa   1000Mb/s   full      10/100/1000      d0:27:88:a4:ec:X1   Copper     yes           running

ethMb   unknown    unknown   10/100/1000      d0:27:88:a4:ec:X2   Copper     unknown       down

ethMc   unknown    unknown   10/100/1000      d0:27:88:a4:ec:X3   Copper     unknown       down

ethMd   unknown    unknown   10/100/1000      d0:27:88:a4:ec:X4   Copper     unknown       down

ethMe   unknown    unknown   100/1000/10000   d0:27:88:a4:ec:X5   Copper     unknown       down

ethMf   unknown    unknown   100/1000/10000   d0:27:88:a4:ec:X6   Copper     unknown       down

I'm sorry that this doesn't get you the proof that you need in the documentation or a solid answer but it explains why you can't find it...

Jonathan

The C-10GBTM4P which is the 10GBase T I/O Module with 4 ports can auto negotiate down to 1GbE.

There are other NIC cards that cannot do this like the optical, SAS and FC cards.

From the DDOS 6.0 command reference guide:

net config ifname {[ipaddr [netmask mask]] | [ipv6addr/prefix]

| [type {fixed | floating}] | [dhcp {yes [ipversion {ipv4 |

ipv6}] | no}]} {[autoneg] | [duplex {full | half} speed {10|

100|1000|10000}] [up | down] [mtu {size | default}] [txqueuelen

size]

Argument Definitions

autoneg

Specify this option to configure the interface to autonegotiate the duplex and speed settings with the remote interface.

Thanks!

How would I go to get an official document stating this?

I assumed the 10Gb copper card would autonegotiate, but do we have a document stating network speeds for each SLIC?

Cheers,

Giovanni

It will be too late for your needs but I will try and see if we can have this information added to maybe the hardware guide on any models that have 10GBaseT support.

Good luck
