How to check DD Boost version?

There have been queries from some folks on how to figure out the version of DD Boost library if they already have Avamar installed with Boost. One way to do this is to ssh to DD or DD VE and running the following command.

ddboost show connections

This should show output something like:

Active Clients: 2

Clients:

Client Idle   Plugin Version OS Version Application Version   Encrypted   DSP   Transport

------------------------   ---- -------------- ----------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------   --------- ---   ---------

avamar1.datadomain.com   NO 3.2.1.0-518314   Linux 2.6.32.12-0.7.1.4677.0.PTF-default x86_64   Avamar ddrmaint 7.3.0-206:1453239674 NO   YES        IPv4

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that we recommend you using Boost client library version 3.1 or higher with DD VE 2.0.

There might be a way to figure this out on the client side, if someone knows it, please share.

Please note that interoperability requirements for Avamar and Data Domain are pretty strict so check the compatibility guide before updating any components or libraries!

To be more specific on your question, if it's a Windows client.C:\Program Files\avs\bin\libDDBoost.dll, right click the DLL, properties and check on the verison. If it's an Avamar 7.0, DDBOOST version would be 3.0.0.3.

In LINUX, process remains pretty much same, I didn't get a chance to check.

it could have been better if we had a command like

ddboost show version

I am still unable to understand if the ddboost version on client is same as ddboost version on DD storage

It doesn't have to be the same.  Compatibility between specific DDOS and ddboost plugins coming from backup applications is documented in dedicated document which you can use as guide.
