IPMI Management DD2500
On a DD2500 (5.4.2.1) I have enabled and configured IPMI Port. After login, the GUI Management is showing up.
There is a tab for Remote Control and than Console Redirection.
After I choose Console Redirection, thats coming out:
Press the button to launch the redirection console and manage the server remotely.
Not Supported
Somehow it looks for me like a Java problem. I tried with several Java versions to fix the problem, but without success. (Java 6 Build 19, Build 12, Build 45, Java 7..)
When I type the command: #ipmi show hardware
Firmware Revision: 5.30
IPMI Version : 2.0
Manufacturer Name: EMC Corp.
I have also contacted producer "Megarac" of IPMI Port about this problem and I found the new IPMI Version: 4.0 on the Megarac Website.
But here is the answer from Megarac:
Thank you for contacting AMI Tech Support,
According to the information you’ve provided, the manufacturer of your system is EMC. The system manufacturers license our generic firmware and modify it to fit their motherboard specifications; thus, we do not have access to the changes made to the firmware. For support, firmware, and driver updates for your system, please contact your system manufacturer.

I have not yet contacted the Data Domain Support, but maybe there are people who knows something about this.
Any infos were helpful for me.
Thanks!

Hi Petar,
The intention of IPMI on Data Domain functionality is not to browse directly to it.
You can configure console redirection and monitor a full system boot right from the beginning prior to DDOS loading, you can watch the system boot from another DD that can route to the IPMI interface, you can do this via an SSH session to a DD that is up and monitor it via that.
Linux has native IPMI functionality to do this but I've never tried it, there are some free applications out there for Windows, I tried these but they weren't very good at all.
The other functionality of it (IMHO, the main function/reason) is to enable you to power on the DD remotely when it is powered off (but still has power applied - obviously).
To do this you should log into the DDEM GUI of another DDR that has a route to the system that is powered down - to it's IPMI interface.
Then go to "maintenance" > "IPMI" > "log into remote system" when the window pops up, choose "another system" and define the IP address of the IPMI interface of the system that is powered down and enter the IPMI username/password for it.
This will give you a window with a choice to "power on" that Data Domain. Then it will start to boot.
If the system is powered up already when you try this, it will give you the option to "power off" - I don't advise you ever do this, if it's up, log into it and power it down cleanly through the DDEM GUI or SSH.
Thats it, basically EMC do not support a direct browse to the IPMI interface, though some models did allow that to happen, we still don't support it.
HTH,
Jonathan
