Is it possible to remove capacity from Data Domain?

HI,

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to remove capacity form a Data Domain?

We have a DD890 with both ES20 and ES30 enclosures and a DD990 with ES30 enclosures. We want to move the ES30 shelves from the 890 and add them to the 990.

Assuming there will be enough capacity left afterwards can the filesystem be reduced and the shelves removed from the DD890?

Thanks

DJ

Hi,

Unfortunately you cannot remove shelves from a Data Domain without destroying the filesystem and losing all data stored.

There is a new 'storage migration' feature that allows you to migrate storage from one (or more) older shelf/shelves to a new larger shelf but not to remove shelves from a live DD and reduce the filesystem size.

Capacity cannot be reduced. But if you would like to reuse the shelves from DD890 on DD990 then you can explore options of replicating the data from DD890, let me know if you want to explore this options and then I can suggest the steps.
