dd4200 performance

your new DD4200 has much more "power" than your old DD640. You can improve your backup performance by using more VTL drives in parallel for your backups now.

I have completed my replication of all the data from the old dd640 – tapmlb09

To the new dd4200.

I have all my brms backups running to the new dd4200 – tapmlb10

I need to access the volumes that were replicated over to the new dd4200 in tapmlb09 pool. How do I do that??

The old library was tapmlb09

The new system library is tapmlb10

Replicated all the data from tapmlb09 to a pool tapmlb09 on the new box

Okay. First, export all "old" tapes on your DD640 to the vault. No tapes are now available on TAPMLB09.

Then break the replication context for your pool tapmlb09 (DD640-> DD4200) to get your replicated tapes writable (at the moment they are read only) on your target system.

Now import the "new" tapes (the replicated tapes in pool tapmlb09) on your DD4200 from the vault into your VTL which represents TAPMLB10.

You should be able to access your tapes via TAPMLB10 now again.

Finally you can rename the pool tapmlb09 to something more suitable ;-).

I started to import the tapes from the old library tapmlb09 to the new vtl tamplb10.

After importing 99 tapes, received message that I have ran out of slots.

How do I create more slots

Hi John, it's refreshingly easy on DD, I would do it in the DDEM GUI.

"Data Management" (top) > "VTL" (just under and to the right) > "virtual tape libraries" (to the left, proabably already expanded) > under "libraries" (select your library) > "more tasks" (top right drop down) > "slots/add" > choose how many slots you want to add in the top highlighted field (personally I think this could be clearer but it's asking for how many slots to add to your "current total slots" figure shown at the bottom of that same window)

You can also do this to add tape drives but you would need to expand/drop down under your VTL tape library to "drives" and "more tasks" to do this.
