Different size reported by networker and DPA

Hi all,

I'm working on creating some DPA report to understand the different activity of our Networker Installation.

The first strange behaviour I see is that DPA report a size for a single save set that is lesser than that reported by Networker jobs.

I imagine that the space reported by Networker is not the simple sum of backed up files, but why DPA is not reporting the same size?

Someone know if this is an issue or is a normal behaviour?

Hi,

I forget this post because I had another thread for the same problem.

The question is that Networker has a problem in the formula for the conversion between Bytes KB MB GB.

The formula is Bytes/1024/1000/1000

This is a very bad formula.

DPA instead has the conversion more intelligent.

It divides everytime by 1024.

So the value are different.

The problem is documented by Emc in a Primus but I can't remember the number.

You can check for it on powerlink.

Bye

Hi. Are you using ddboost? If so, I believe the reason you're seeing different sizes is that DPA reports boost saves on the boosted/deduped number and not the actual scanned saveset size. You need to look at "Amount Protected" to find the scanned size (aka the size that you still see in NetWorker's Index entry for the save).

It's normal behavior/reporting for DPA when using ddboost. You can usually add in the Protected field to the reports (uncheck the Drop flag on whichever report you're running).

Hope this helps.

Joe
