Alerts email OME 3.1

Hello, I have created a strategy for sending emails during critical alerts.
I configured the smtp server on port 25 accessible from OME 3.1
I do not receive any emails if an alert occurs.

Here's a video showing the configuration of email alerting, so that you can confirm your process:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mprcOGElSc

If that is the same process you followed, you'll want to make sure that the ports are not blocked on the hosts, or on any network device. You may also look at updating the iDRAC.

Below is the link to the user's guide for OpenManage Enterprise. It has a full section on configuring email alerts.

Hello, thanks for the video. I followed the steps well and validated the alert by email but it does not work.

I test with snmp trap.

Hello, is there a problem with alerts in OME 3.1.
E-mails and snmp traps do not work via alerts.
But the snmp trap works via the test.
Is version 3.1 dysfunctional?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with alerts. On the other hand, alerts and alert strategies do not work. E-mails don't work while all the configuration for notifications is good. In addition, the sending works for Report Generated and Discovery Task Discovery.

Hi ctallandier,

I have absolutely the same issue. Reports are sent but not the alerts.

Did you find a solution to your issue ?

Thanks in advance

How would these alerts even work? If I enable them, I have to select day of week. But if I don't select any time when it should start or the end date, what time of day would it go through the idracs for problems? At 00:00?

And there should be the button with which I could test send a report.

Hi, could you take a look at the link below?

https://dell.to/357Cppj

Also you can use “Dell EMC systems management troubleshooting tool for network devices” to see if a port is blocked or  SMTP , SNNP are properly working in your network.

Hi there does open manage appliance (vmware) have some sort of log file that i can access? Specifically i want to see WHY my test message is failing. Otherwise, how can i solve this?

server: smtp.office365.com

use username and password.

smtp port number: 587 or 25 (doesnt matter)

SSL: checked / unchecked (doesnt matter)

send test email, the test email always fails. "Failed to send test email"

I also said the "from" name to the email address i want to send from in one of the menus. How can we get this working, as all the links above are not helpful. This shouldn't be that difficult. Does open manage not support TLS 1.2?

Would be able to solve this if i had a log file i recon, but i cant do anything on the open manage console. How do i see /var/log ?

Hello o365anddell,

If Alerts aren't being received in OME check:

Check all firewalls between OME and the target and ensure port 162 is open.

Ensure that SNMP alert is configured on the target device.

We do have Debug logging. This will show how to enable  OpenManage Enterprise Log Gathering. Be sure to disable when you're done.

I could also recommend updating OME.  OME 3.6.2 is released Dell EMC OpenManage Enterprise Documentation

Ok first TYVM, so i will condense what i learned now to make it easier for others.

1.) go to the command line on the server (they call it text console, open vmware console to the machine.)

2.) enable debugging and restart services

3.) once http comes back up, repeat the action you are trying (so in this case a mail test).

4.) go to the top menu on the left (open manager enterprise) then Monitor -> audit logs

5.) click export and select the console log.

6.) use notepad++ to find strings in files and put in the mailserver name smtp.office365.com and search. I got results in this file, taskexecutionservice.log

DEBUG SMTP: AUTH LOGIN succeeded
DEBUG SMTP: use8bit false
MAIL FROM:

ahha! but i already changed the default auto reply name. So um.... how do i change this no-reply@dell.com address?

From: no-reply@dell.com

554 5.2.252 STOREDRV.Submission.Exception:SendAsDeniedException.MapiExceptionSendAsDenied; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message Cannot submit message.

i have changed the mail sender setting already AND rebooted the server. Any idea?

Hello o365anddell,

I have raised an engagement from a Systems Management Engineer to check into this. In the meantime I want to check if you configured SMTP?

Hello o365anddell,

I found out that changing Sender will be used for actual Email Alerts.

The test uses,  no-reply@dell.com,  all the time. So the test is not good for some mail servers, like Office365 that requires a mailbox for account you're using. I don't know about Office 365 but the postings I'm reading seem your settings have to match a licensed inbox that your using to send e-mail as.
