Discovery: Some servers found via name, but not via subnet. What gives?

I'm having an issue where I cannot discover certain servers via IP address, but if I build a range based on server names instead of IP addresses it discovers these servers just fine.  Most of my other servers discover just fine based on subnets.  Any suggestions on where to start looking?

Hi and good to hear from you again.

A couple of quick questions:

1. When you go to the discovery portal page, there is a button for Discovery settings.  What is selected on the "Discover" radio button?  What is selected on the "Name Resolution" radio button?

2. When you run the Dell Troubleshooting Tool (installed on your OME desktop)...assuming SNMP...what result do you get for running with IP Addr?  What result do you get running with Hostname?

Let's start there...

thx!

Hi,

You can also check if the reverse DNS lookup is working properly. You can try running ping -a <IP address> command from command prompt on OME server to check if appropriate hostname is returned for those servers.

Looks like it was all a Layer 8 issue.  I accidentally omitted a subnet from my Discovery list.  D'oh!
