OMSA vs OME

Howdy,

We have a bunch of Dell Servers and are researching installing OMSA on them all to monitor their hardware and such.  We'd like to get an email sent out if any servers discover a problem which it seems I can't do via OMSA by itself.  I know one option is to get some sort of 3rd party script to use within OMSA that will send an email out.  However, I also read that OME can send emails on its own so I'm wondering if that's a better option.

I have OMSA installed on 2 servers so far but I'm not sure how OME comes into play.  Do I install OME on an Admin type server and then it hooks into all the other servers running OMSA?

This is all new to me so any guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi there and thanks for the post.

Short answer: Yes, you can use OME to do this.

delltechcenter.com/ome has a ton of getting started doc and videos, so start there.  It's possible there's even a video for setting up an email alert.

Basically install OME on a "Management Station" server so it can discover your Managed Nodes (OMSA boxes).  The MS can be a physical Win server or a VM.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Rob
