SNMP alerts not sent to OME
Hello,
I have a little issue configuring my PowerConnect 5448 switch to talk to my Open Manage Essentials server.
I have set up the snmp trap like in "Making my Environment Manageable.pdf"
And using the troubleshooting utily from OME, I'm able to communicate with the switch.
The problem is that one of the fans is out of service and I don't have any information about that in OME.
My question is, do I have to set up something more (MIB's, ..) either in OME or the switch ?
Also, the fan was out of order BEFORE I set up the snmp trap... but I have seen that OME sees events from months of other machines before they were set up ...

I don't have anything under SNMP 3 and can't seem to enable it
show system - fan part :
Main Power Supply Status: OK
Fan 1 Status: OK
Fan 2 Status: NOT OPERATIONAL
Fan 3 Status: OK
And OME just shows me everything is "green" about this switch.
I searched Dell and Google over and over but can't seem to find more details so I'm asking here if someone could help me :)

Hi and thanks for the question and good detail.
So I am assuming the switch shows up correctly in the OME device tree and when you click on it you get a bit of inventory information, etc. And you said the health is currently showing green.
Ok, so if the alert happened in the past (prior to setting up in OME), then you will not see it in the OME alert console. The thing you might have seen is if a certain type of device sends out the same alert repeatedly.
Did you confirm that you edited the SNMP settings on the switch itself to direct the SNMP alerts to the IP address of the OME server? Your post makes it look like you have done this correctly, assuming the IP address is accurate.
For some switches, just the act of logging into the switch will generate an informational alert. Not sure on this model. Do you see new alerts going into OME from this switch or do you have a way to generate a test alert from the switch such as by logging in?
BTW, OME does not have support for v3 alerts, only v1/v2.

And BIG THANKS for all the hair I won't be tearing out the rest of the afternoon :)
Indeed, I can see a "linkUp" event and I did a test, I have the events showing up on OME.
Thought about it, but I have one server that fetchs "system down" from a power failure that took place in 2014, way before I set up this machine on OME. I will investigate why the event is still sent by the server :)

You state that OME does not support SNMP V3 is there any plan or roadmap when it will be supported.

Our company's security policy wants SNMP v1 and v2 disabled. Please let us know when is OME going to support SNMP v3.
Lack of support for SNMP v3 makes OME vulnerable to competition.
