I might be able to get one from work to use as a lab but I want to know if it will support 16GB dimms on a 4x16GB configuration. The owners manual says it has four dimm slots but doesn't say that it supports only 32GB max.
If it's the mini-tower, it will support 64GB. The other 7040s, Micro and All-in-one, do only 32GB. Make sure you purchase the RAM from a source that guarantees it will work, such as Crucial. Dells are very fussy over RAM.
Why do you need 64GB? Cost is about $400.
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't convinced that it won't work and had to test it. It had four slots so I wanted to confirm it. No issues so far. Just completed the pre-boot assessment without issues with 4x16GB DDR4 2133 memory installed. It booted into the OS as well without problems.
The only issue I've found is that there is not enough space to close the DVD/HDD cage on top of the memory sticks. I had to get rid of the DVD drive.
