2nd Monitor Issue

I currently have a two monitor setup.  One is base PC - a Dell Inspirion 2330 desktop and the other a Dell 22" monitor.  I did some rearranging of my work space and unplugged the second monitor.  When I reconnected, it no longer recognizes it.  All I get is floating box that says "no VGA Cable."  I went through the setup under screen resolution etc, all to no avail.  I tested the VGA cable and secondary monitor (plugged to iPad) and it worked fine.  Running Windows 8 if that matters.  Any help appreciated.
