3100 - Faster Internet Access
I am trying to get a Dimension 3100 to load browser pages more quickly. The machine will be used in an elementary school classroom for students to access web-based lessons and activities.
Should I put in an SSD? If so, what is a recommended capacity? Add more RAM? If so, how much? Video card? Wireless upgrade of some sort? I know just enough to be dangerous, so details will be helpful.
I don't have access to the machine right now, (It belongs to my ex-wife.) but I can find out specifications if that makes a difference. It is several years old and came with whatever was fairly standard then. She will be accessing the web through her school's wireless, which I assume is a big ol' pipe of bandwidth.
Thanks for suggestions and advice!

Several years old is an understatement. This is from 2006 and not a good choice for a classroom situation and it would be a waste of money to upgrade if even possible. It is an obsolete budget model and cannot handle today's hardware like ssd. You would be better off buying a newer model. It doesn't have to be brand new just with Windows 7 or later. You cannot use anything with XP in a classroom or on the Internet for security reasons. XP is no longer a supported OS and is insecure and could damage the school's network. Vista is not much better. Recycle the old computer. Good Will will accept it for recycling. Wipe the hard drive before recycling.

Thanks for the advice, rdunnill. Since this expense will come out of her pocket, my ex would like to do this as economically as possible. Of these choices, which are absolutely necessary and which will provide the most bang for the buck? Also, which upgrade will present the most challenge for someone with only moderate familiarity with the guts of a computer?
Thanks!
