3gb of usable RAM and not 3.25gb
Dell Optiplex 740 - enhanced version with 4GB RAM (2x2) Dell/Nanya PC2-5300 667mhz latency 5.
Only works in slots 2 and 4 on motherboard, I've tried to move the RAM around for different working combinations,
so far this is the only one that works.
FYI - second motherboard, same thing.
YP806 Foxxconn AM2 motherboard made specifically for Dell. Obviously I'm using a 32-bit and the OS is Windows 7.
Usually when running a 32-bit I'm able to get 3.25GB as I do on my other machines.
Never have I been limited to 3GB. Actual screen says that 4GB installed only 3GB usable.
Please inform me of this situation is this correct, will work or have a problem somewhere.?
I will eventually move up to a 64-bit and I know this will not be a problem then but were taling about now.
Thanks.

The precise amount of memory you will see depends a lot on the system configuration. The address space above 3 GB is taken up by reserved I/O allocations and any memory required by your PCI cards, to include the PCI-e graphics card you have. A number of pages have been created to explain this situation; two of them are here: Microsoft KB 929605, System Memory is Less Than Expected, and Ask Dan: What's With the 3 GB Memory Barrier.
