530s Slim case PSU Upgrade?

Hi,

I have an Inspiron 530S Slim Mini Tower, which came with a 250W (I think) power supply.

I want to upgrade the video card to something more capable of running games, etc, and am looking at some of the GeForce 9500 and ATI 46xx options.. I haven't decided on the exact video card yet but will probably replace the power supply with something in that "general" range of cards.

Since most cards require 18A on the 12V rail, I'd like to find a PSU that will handle that, and which will fit in the 530S Slim Case, hopefully something in the 400-500W range, preferably with an onboard fan, and which doesn't cost an arm and a leg... Can anyone give me some suggestions, brands, model numbers, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I don't have an answer for you, however, the "S" (and "C") models are not ful size and do not use a standard ATX size power supply.  You may not find what you are looking for.

The PCI Express x16, low profile video card, HERE should work fine with 250w power supply.

Due to the constraints of the 530S slim case, only TFX power supply units are compatible, that are usually either the default 250w, or a third party 300w.

A 300w TFX PSU can be purchased from HERE

You don't need to upgrade your power supply for a 4650-based card.

This straight off the 4650 1GB card.

300 Watt or greater power supply (400 Watt for ATI CrossFireX technology in dual mode) is recommended.

It says 300, could I get away with the stock 250?

I found the best card for the money and increases the video perormance, there is no changing out the PSU. I have been running this card in my daughters computer for a week and she plays high end games like wow and sto maxed on graphics.

The current video is the onboard with a rating of 170 via G3D (intel G33/G31 Express)

The card I bought which doesn't have a fan and 1 gig of on board memory is the MSI R4550-MD1GH Radeon HD 4550 1GB 64-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP which has a G3D rating of 358

The card can be found here as of this writing for $44.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127458

Hope this helps for everyone with a S530 and wants to ugrade their graphics.
