A question on IMSM for my DellXPS 410?
Hello,
I want to re-install my Win 7 x64 on my Dell XPS 410.
I want to download the latest IMSM from Intel site prior to start my Win 7 x64 (Retail Disk) reinstallation.
My previous IMSM (the present one) is v8.9.0.1023.
I would like to know if the following will be compatible on my system? And will this include the GUI too?
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) RAID Driver
Or would you be kind enough to direct me to the correct link to obtain it.
Thanks a lot
Regards

The driver that you have listed may be DELL OEM and not available on the Intel Site. I posted what I could find. The LATEST RST will not work at all with your ICH8R. Next to latest same, Earier Same.
You don't get to time travel and get 2015 features in a 2005 chipset.
You are asking for automated support for EOL system that did not ship with WINDOWS 7.
EDIT I did find 8.9.0.1023 its NOT RST
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/17882/Intel-Matrix-Storage-Manager
I do not know that ANY of the RST drivers work for your chipset from 2005.
I do know that version 13 12 11 are VERY LIKELY to not work at all.
You do not need IMSM or RST drivers to install windows 7 or 8 or 10.
The native microsoft driver for AHCI works.
Interactive support for the P965 chipsets and ICH ended more than 5 years ago.
I believe you have an
Intel P965 Broadwater MCH (memory control hub)
and ICH 8M (I/O controller hub).
ICH7DH
632xESB
ICH8DH
ICH8DO
ICH9DO
PCH-M

Thank you for that quick reply.
My present one is v8.9.0.1023. This appear to be one later than what you've indicated(v8.8.01009). I may be wrong in understanding. What do you feel?
The one you've posted is not displayed to support Win 7 x64 (It has XP &Vista)
Can I install the Win 7 x64 and then go to Device Manager and look for the latest available IMSM and get an automatic update to a suitable (correct) one?
What do you think?

IMSM: Intel Matrix Storage Manager has higher and higher requirements. The XPS410 is the Intel P965 Express CHIPSET.
Your system is too old to use the latest INTEL RST driver. With each successive version they drop support for ICH4 ICH5 ICH6 ICH7 etc.
You may not be able to use Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) RAID Driver version 13.6.0.1002 OR 12.xx OR 11.xx OR 10.xx or 9.xx (Versions earlier than 10.1.x.xxxx do not support Drives larger than 2TB.)
Legacy software
The following I/O controller hubs (ICH)
Intel® Matrix Storage Manager
(Previously released)
This driver provides support for high-capacity & fault-tolerant Serial ATA (SATA) RAID 5 arrays and high-performance & fault-tolerant SATA RAID 10 arrays on select Intel® 4 Series, 3 Series, 965, 975X, 955X and 945 chipset-based platforms. It provides support for high-performance SATA RAID 0 arrays & redundant SATA RAID 1 arrays on select Intel® 4 Series, 3 Series, 965, 975X, 955X, 945, 925, 915 chipset-based platforms. It also provides AHCI support on select Intel® 4 Series, 3 Series, 965, 975X, 955X, 945, 925 and 915 chipset-based platforms, as well as on Mobile Intel® 915/910 chipset-based platforms.
Note: Intel® RAID Technology requires the Intel® ICH9R/ICH9M-E/ICH10R SATA RAID controller hub, Intel® 82801HR I/O controller hub (ICH8R), Intel® 631xESB/632xESB I/O controller hub, Intel® 82801GR/GH I/O controller hub (ICH7R/DH), Intel® 82801FR I/O controller hub (ICH6R).

11.6.0.1030 Device ID's from iaStorAC.inf:

In general INTEL RST Version 10,11,12,13 ICH8
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) ESB2 SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3&CC_0104.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C6&CC_0104.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) ICH7MDH SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) ICH8R/DO/PCH SATA RAID Controller"
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&CC_0104.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) ICH8M-E/PCHM SATA RAID Controller"
Not supported
Request denied.
End of story.
IMSM = Earlier Version of the Driver.
IMSM is NOT EQUAL to INTEL RST
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) version 9.6 and newer supports 4k sector disks if the device supports 512 byte emulation (512e). Intel® RST does not support 4k native sector size devices.
What happens if I try to use an older version of the driver?
If you try to install the operating system on a 512e disk with a driver older than Intel® RST version 9.6, the install process might not complete. This driver is not validated with your XPS and may not work at all. There will be ZERO support for this if its not working. INSTALLING THIS DRIVER if its not working can lead to 100 percent loss of all data. Do so at your own RISK.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/15251/RAID-Intel-Rapid-Storage-Technology-Driver-for-Intel-Desktop-Boards
If the operating system does install, do not try to upgrade to Intel® RST version 9.6 without reinstalling your operating system.
As the versions go up the support for earlier ICH Goes Down aka not supported.
You do not have any of the following

Thank you for that SpeedStep.
I came across this on Intel's site and find this guy has put in the following:
Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO/PCH SATA RAID Co ...
Here he says that RST driver version is incompatible but reinstalling the drivers using the iata_enu.exe file include a utility similar to Matrix Storage Manager.
I know the discussion in there is XPS 420 but My Dimension 9200 / DXP061 is identical I thought!!
What do you feel...
(I am not questioning your knowledge but asking for help and opinion from you. I am thankful to your assistance)
