SPIDF INTERNAL CABLE
I need the exact pins and cable colors to plug up my SPDIF internal audio for my video card. I could not find a mobo diagram for the 540 studio anywhere.
Thanks all,
This comes up occasionally and based on other posts there is no internal motherboard S/PDIF connector. The Dell manual states there is one EXTERNAL S/PDIF connection and it is on the rear I/O panel.
If you bought a Video card that requires that connection in order to have HDMI video, it's best to just buy an HD video card that has it's own internal audio, such as the ATI Radeon HD4850 (what I have). This type of card does not rely on the PC's audio system.

There are 5 SDIF pins on the mobo but are not labeled as to which one does what.
There is nothing in the available Dell documentation (at least what is available to us users) that details anything about that.

So does anyone have an idea what the intell MOBO number is so I can go cruz at Intel?
The Dell motherboards are Dell custom boards, not "retail" boards. Many are made by Foxconn for Dell and some of the newer ones were made by ASUS for Dell. They may have an Intel chipset on them but not made by Intel (I have a Retail Intel motherboard and it appears to have been made for Intel by Foxconn too).

Usually there are three or four. If the 540 is anything like the Vostro, the connection is three-pin. It might be like this one. Or not. Use at your own risk!

There's a picture of a five-pin pinout in this thread.
Use at your own risk. If it is correct, you would use pins 3 and 5.
You da man! I will do this on a rainy day and I feel brave.
