Anyway to find out original configured price for tricked out XPS 9100 extreme
Got this tower second hand that seems to be an original build based on service code but had to have been every upgrade possible back in the day. I'm thinking this had to be a $3,000 build back in the day. Anyway to know?

Not really unless you have magazine ads etc from then.
Dell's Studio XPS 9100 serves as its top of the line media desktop, with customization options including 2 TB storage capacity and 24 GB of RAM. Status: Available. Availability date: 07/2010. Base Price at launch: $950.00. Adding 12 gigs of ram and Windows 7 Ultimate added $600 more to the price. The 5970 would have added another $570

Thanks for the post, I did read a review that was archived that the CPU was a $1,000 upgrade at the time as well so that took it to $3,120 and I am guessing at that time a Blu Ray writer was not a cheap upgrade. The sound card would have been an over $100 upgrade as well. I'm guessing just the tower would have run someone around $3,500.

If you pop out the Radeon and put in a GTX1060 its still a great machine.

Thanks I love the 9100, I have had 3 of them over the years, one I bought new and the other 2 were used. This is the first one that it is truly maxed out as far as originally offered specs. I agree the video card is probably the best thing to upgrade.

Are you sure the GTX 1060 will work with the 9100. I tried an EVGA GTX 1050 TI and my 9100 would boot to a black screen. EVGA tech indicated that BIOS A04 was the issue.

Unfortunately I don't have mine anymore to test.
There are also success stories with GTX 970 and 980. And 1060 ASUS version

Just wanted to add that I ugpraded to a GTX 1060, the Asus ROG strix edition to be exact for anyone else out there looking to get that card. All is good. It's a bit longer so it sags slightly toward the end... I'll have to rig somethign up to help it out a bit, but I'm not really worried about it. Stock power supply of 525w. 1 six pin and 1 two pin for power.
Also, I upgraded the processor to a i7-980x with no problem. I did download the last bios update from the dell site though before installing. It's like a new computer! hehe.

That's odd. There are 9100 users running the GTX 1050 Ti (although not sure if that same brand/model). Like this person's build (seems to be a Gigabyte brand).
Scan through users' benchmarks for the 9100 on userbenchmark.com to see what others are running.
Seems you could just go for broke with a GTX 1080. Power connector(s) on rear of card must match up to your machine and be connected, of course. May or may not require a higher watt PSU - but I doubt it - GPUs, at least recent GTX GeForce 900 and 1000 series, aren't very power hungry.
