Asking for an opinion

I have an old Optiplex 980 with Intel Core i5 650 @3.20 GHz and 8 GB of RAM.

Windows 7 pro with disk mirroring.

I use the workstation for sw development and usual home networking.

Would it be advisable to upgrade the processor ?

If yes, which one ? In case, have I to replace also the power supply, as I have the default 305 W ?

Thanks

Given what you have its not really an upgrade. The 880 is a percentage faster and has more cores.  But if your software doesnt take advantage of those cores then its a wash.

My Inspiron 3847 with Core I7 4790k is an upgrade.

Thanks for the answer. By the way I got it as too much telegraphic :-)

I ask for an hardware expert counseling. I mean, as the use of the unit is that one, is it advisable to upgrade ?

i.e.  have I to expect real advantages ? Sorry to bother :-)
