BIOS Password

We set a BIOS password on our sons Dell Inspirion 660 desktop several years ago when we purchased it.

We're trying to change the operating system from Windows to Ubuntu but we can't get into the BIOS to modify the bootorder.

We removed the coin-sized battery on the motherboard for several hours, but after rebooting, the BIOS password is still present.

Can anyone assist?

RE: BIOS Password

There's usually a password-clear jumper on the mainboard -- usually a 3- pin (two position) and probably the only one on the board.  Move the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3, power on, power off and reset the jumper.

If there's no password-clear jumper, disconnect the power supply, remove the CMOS battery and hold the power button for about 30 sec.  That should clear it.
