Bad Diagnostics or Bad Drive
As a result of my system re-booting on a random basis, I ran the Dell Diagnostics (Build V1277) on my Dimension 9200. Running the Express Test 4 times, the system failed each time at the 99% mark of the Confidence test. The failure in this case meant no error message, but a re-booting of the system. This is a repeatable event. I then ran the separate Confidence Test (not Express) and it ran fine each time.
The failure during the Express test looked much like the 'real life' failure - system restart. But, now I am wondering if the test is defective - or is my disk defective.
Suggestions?????

Try running the extend test on the hard drive itself. There can be other issues at work here but a failing hd is definatly one to look at.

I ran the Extended Test - passed. But, it does not test the drive.
After completing the test, I selected another test from the menu and the system IMMEDIATELY rebooted.
How can I troubleshoot when the tests seem to cause the problem?
