Can I install a new fan into my Dell XPS 420
Hello,
I recently bought a new graphics card, for my Dell XPS 420. I successfully installed the card, but it's getting pretty hot. I was wondering if I could install a fan in my case but I'm not sure if it supports one (it seems to be a little cluttered because of the miny view).
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi Microvolt52,
Pretty hot means what?

Hello Ospray!
It depends, when I first start it it's cool but as play games (like Medal of Honor Airborne etc) it tends to get hotter e. I'm not sure if that's the way it is or if it's overheating. It also gets louder but I'm pretty sure that happens normally.
Thanks, Microvolt52

I would run a temp utility to check your CPU and GPU temperatures.

Would I have to download a program or is it a program installed on windows vista?

No, it's not part of Vista. Try this.

Thank's for that link, the CPU is at around 48c the graphics card is about 68c not sure if that's to high, and the fan is at 30c. I'm not sure if the card to high though.

Is that 68°C under load or idle?

I'm not sure, but I think it's fine now but just for future reference do you know if I can have a fan in my model?
Also do you know if I would be able to run BF3. ( Battlefield 3)
I have a Nvidia GeForce 8600 gts by XFX with an Intel core 2 quad with 4 Gigs of ram (which I will soon upgrade)
Thanks- Microvolt52

There may be a cooling solution that will work, such as one of those PCI slot fans. I'd look into that.

Ospray,
Hello, I must thank you for all the kind solutions you have given me, but now a new problem has arisen. my graphics card has given me some very weird situations when I run a game the color scheme goes nuts and everything goes pink and green, and the sorts. Now though it wont even start up normally, it looks almost exactly like this image I found on the web ( picture is bellow). Again I cannot figure out what is wrong with it. Also the PC works fine with my other card which I believe is the AMD Radeon 2400 pro. The new one is the Nvidia GeForce 8600 gts.
Any help would be appreciated thanks -Microvolt

Run the Dell diagnostics on your video card.

How would I do that if I can't start up my card without it looking like that? Once it actually starts up everything is barely visible. Thanks again-Microvolt

See if you can get to the F12 utility partition during startup.
