Can I overclock my XPS 720's CPU?

I've heard you can't overclock a dell PC and then I've heard you can. If you can... Can you overclock it throught the mobo or do you have to use a program? And if I decide to upgrade my CPU can I use a Q6700, QX9650 or QX9770?

The CPU I have now: Q6600, 2.4, 8MB, CDKE, G0

Using programs you can get about a 0.2Ghz increase in CPU. Its pointless to do so.

The only way you can get a large increase in performace is to modify you CPU chip.

No, how does modify mean buy a new one?

I mean modify, actually alter the processor itself. You connect two of the pins on the back of it.

Allso if you have warranty dont start joining legs on your cpu, as obviously warrantty void after.

Me myself would'nt do it as if you go wrong your over £150 out of pocket for a new cpu.

Best thing to do is if u want more cpu power upgrade the cpu.

Thx tingull :smileyvery-happy:
