Can I send my motherboard to be fixed?

I have a dell motherboard p/n# 1H315 and it has malfunctioned. I do not have the silly service tag they require. Can I send it to be replaced or fixed?

Motherboards as such don't carry more than a 90 day warranty (when purchased from Dell spare parts). To honor this warranty, you'll have to have the order number which you purchased the board on.

Generally warranty is with the computer as a whole, and it's tied to the service tag. Without a service tag you have no warranty (again, unless you purchased the part from spare parts (90 day from purchase/ship date) or Dell's software and peripherals (has to be a Dell part and the warranty would depend on which exact part (e.g. memory often has a lifetime warranty from this section of Dell's site))).

Update:

Are you sure 1H315 is the part number for your motherboard? According to the Centrix site, that's the part number for the "Riser" add-in card with 2 PCI slots, and not for the motherboard.

This is a Dimension 8200 motherboard  -- that would make it at least six (more likely7-8) years old- and well out of warranty.

No one is going to economically repair anything that old - you can find a replacement on EBay for $30.

Centrix has a number of bare motherboards for the 8200 (different part numbers than yours) that are either new (never used) or pulled from a system that was never sold, each for $29 plus shipping, and all with a 30-day warranty.

You'll have to investigate the differences between these different boards:
