Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors are not supported, by the Optiplex620.

You can install a Pentium D Processor, that has Dual Core Technology, up to D 960, 3.6G, 2x2MB, 800FSB.

eBay a good source for EOL [end of life] processors.

The Optiplex 620 has four different versions eg, Mini Tower, Desktop, Small Form Factor and Ultra Small Form Factor

Which version do you have?

Processors for Dell GX620 Mini Tower:

Prescott P4 Kit, 670, 3.80GHz, 2MB, 800FSB,
Prescott P4 Kit, 660, 3.60GHz, 2MB, 800FSB
Prescott P4 Kit, 650, 3.40GHz, 2MB, 800FSB
Presler P4 950, 3.40GHz, 2X2MB, 800FSB, C1
Pentium D 960 3.6GHz. (SL9K7 - D0 - 95W) or (SL9AP - C1 - 130W)

Prior to installing the processor, check that you have BIOS version A10, or higher installed, when updated support for processors was added.
