Can a Dell Inspiron 531 use an AMD Athlon X2 6400+ with the factory motherboard and power supply?
Currently running the PC on Windows 7, and the whole thing is factory original, other than another 1GB of RAM I added.

No, the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1Ghz 89W Brisbane is the best upgrade, if you can find one, as they are no longer made.
