Can an Inspiron 546 handle a Radeon 4770 video card?

Wondering if an Inspiron 546 can handle the Radeon 4770 video card. As in, is the case and motherboard layout going to have enough room?

It is a mini tower.

Hi V_RocKs,

So you have an Inspiron 546MT, correct? If so, you shouldn't have any difficulties as far as dimensions go since most 4770 card are <8 inches in length.

Some are dual slot (to accomodate a large heatsink) so they may interfere with a neighoring slot.

However, it looks like the card vendors are recommending a 400W power supply for this card and it requires a 6 pin power connector. I couldn't easily tell if your 546MT has these things, but I doubt it.

If you like ATI, I would go for the 4670 which is known to work well with the 300-350W PS used in typical mid tower case and does not require an extra power connector. There are similar nVidea products like the 9500GT that would fill the bill as well.

FWIW the 4770 performance is similar to the 9800GTX  in performance, and far superior to the 9500GT.

Im running a 4670 Ultimate in my E521, with AMD 6000+ 125W, 4GB RAM and harddrive on the stock 305 watt PSU.

It runs great.
