I've done my share of posting and ranting about my XPS 2710 on here.
Just an FYI as maybe I can help someone else who has a broken XPS 2710 from either upgrading to Windows 10 or with another issue like a corrupted bios/eeprom (my issue).
I was searching for replacement parts and came across a company who had an eBay ad saying they can fix the XPS 2710 issues that we're experiencing.
For $100 at this point I figured I'd take the chance. If he said he couldn't fix it there would be no charge.
A few days later I got the motherboard back. And sure enough...it worked!
My XPS 2710 is back in action!
Oh Ron. It never was Windows 10 to begin with. I took the 1TB hard drive and plugged it back in and Windows 7 booted up.
I had a new msata SSD that I got to detect as a bootable when in ACHI mode. The 1TB will be wiped for media and screw this Dell / MS back and forth about Windows 10.
Something tells me I can run any version of Linux on it (which I plan on doing) and I won't have to worry about any software breaking my hardware. Amen.
It never was Windows 10 to begin with.
Thanks for clarifying.
Just didn't want others to think the repair that was done on your board is the solution to problems with Win 10. Would really hurt if somebody pays $100 to fix it and then Win 10 bricks it again...
Hope Linux works well for you.

Can you share who you went with on ebay. I'd like to know if its possible he can repair my motherboard and perhaps wipe everything and keep mine working as a windows 8.1 pc when it originally worked.
Do a search. There are a number of people making the same type of offer - we fix it or no charge. Usually the low price requires you to send the system board only. If you send the entire computer, the cost could be significantly higher. Their big volume is fixing boards with trashed BIOS chips and ;laptop boards with failed DC socket connections.
