Compatibility of E8600 processor with Motherboard 0RY007 G33M02

I have Dell Inspiron 530 with Motherboard 0RY007 G33M02 and processor E4600.  I wanted to upgrade my system and bought an E8600 E0 processor from ebay.  After installing the processor the computer booted successfully and vista reported E8600 is detected.  When I started to monitor the temps for the cores the HWMonitor reported about 25 - 34 degree Celsius for both cores, but TEMPIN0 was about 85 degree Celcius and same with speedfan Temp1. So, I shutdown the computer after 15 minutes of operation.  When I turn on the computer again the PWR button light was solid amber yellow and the cpu + chasis fan were spinning, no display. I tried clearing the bios, but no luck.  So, I decided to put the original processor back and the computer started running normally.  Also, the bios is updated to 1.0.18v.  My question is whether the E8600 is not compatible with this motherboard or the processor was sent faulty.  I did the move to E8600 because many people claimed that they had successfully upgraded their system having the same motherboard with e8600 processor. The Wolfdale Core 2 Duo, E8600, 3.33GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, E0, with the latest BIOS version, as you have installed, is compatible with the Inspiron 530 0RY007 G33M02 motherboard.

Was the thermal compound replaced?

Was the processor aligned correctly in the socket, page 171 here:

http://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_inspiron_desktop/inspiron-530_owner%27s%20manual_en-us.pdf

Although this is rare, could the used EOL processor have failed?

I'm still using a 7 year old Inspiron 530MT with a E8400 with added SSD drives, without any issues.

Thank you for the reply.  Yes, I replaced the thermal compound with Arctic MX-4 and the processor was also aligned correctly in the socket.  If that was the case then the processor would not have been detected. As mentioned before that the computer booted into vista and the processor was detected. After that I put back the original processor by following the same procedure as I previously used which is working fine.

So my question is should I reflash the bios from 1.0.18 to 1.0.15 and reflash it back to latest? Is it possible that bios had to do something with it being failed? or wait for another e8600 to arrive and try that and see what happens.  Please help me understand this situation If motherboard detects a processor once with the updated bios version then is it ok to assume that bios was not the cause of cpu failure.  Thank you

My advice would be, not to touch the BIOS, as a failed, or corrupt BIOS flash can cost you a new motherboard.

Hi, I tried e8500 now and it is not working too. As I power up the system, the power led stays solid amber and both fans spins on high rpm.  The processor that I ordered from ebay.is:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8500 6M Cache 3.16 GHz 1333 MHz FSB SLAPK LGA775 CPU.

I am not sure why two processors would fail even though they should work with no problem.  Bios is also up to date.

fwiw, I've owned a Vostro 400 with E8200 (C0) fitted to a G33M03 with PC2-5300 RAM from new.

In my experience temperature monitoring utilities never correctly report the temperatures with these motherboards.  TEMPIN0 immediately after powering up is 80C. TEMPIN2 reports -67C !

This is just a thought but have you considered whether the solid amber power LED may indicate there is a power supply related problem ?

Is the computer fitted with a graphics card?  If yes, perhaps try remove it to reduce the load on the PSU.

My Vostro came with a 350w PSU.
