Some help please as I want to install an SSD in my PC and use it in place of the existing HDD
Where and how should it be mechanically installed?
Besides the SSD what else will I need?
Do I need a caddy if so which one ?
Will the data cable be from the motherboard or the existing HDD?
Will the power be looped from the HDD power - if so which cable will I need?
Are slave and master settings needed?
I installed one in an OptiPlex 9010 SFF. There is a special caddy available, but I used a Silverstone SDP08 adapter with a standard 3.5-inch caddy to install it where a 3.5-inch hard drive would go.
There are no slave or master settings with SATA devices.
Thanks rdunnill for your post
I have opened up by Dell and find there is a spare bay by the HDD with a power connector. Also there is a spare SATA socket on the motherboard.
So install in same way as you did, in addition to the 2.5 SSD drive, I will need
Silverstone 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor
Dell caddy for 3.5 drive
Does that seem right?
