Cpu upgrade
I got a Precision 470 with a XC838 motherboard is it possible to up
grade it to Dual Core cpu? I was thinking of a 2.8 SL8MA,
Thanks in advance,

Unless it's on the list of CPUs Dell shipped with this model, it's unlikely to work.

After I couldn't find a definitive answer on the forums, I took the plunge and scored a XC838 mobo (or 0XC838 depending on how you say it). It arrived the other day and my two SL8MA CPUs arrived today. I flashed the BIOS to A07 and the Precision 470 fired up right away without a hitch. Recognized in the BIOS as dual core as well. The machine is MUCH faster (replaced single core 3.2 Ghz Xeons).
I've got hyperthreading turned on. It's cool to see 8 processors in the Task Manager. :emotion-11:
