I have a question regarding XPS 8500. I was thinking of purchasing one that specifically has Windows 7 as an operating system, instead of Windows 8, with 16GB of memory, a i7-3770 processor, and a Geforce GTX 660 video card.
I found a custom XPS desktop with a GTX 660 here: http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-8500/pd?oc=fxdnpx31sh&model_id=xps-8500#!stoneId=undefined&overrides=fxdnpx31sh:6~W8GTX66;3~16G164D
But it only comes with Windows 8.
While I also a custom XPS desktop that comes with Windows 7 here: http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/xps-8500/fs
it doesn't have an option how a GTX 660.
I just want to know if it's technically possible to either get a XPS 8500 with Windows 8 and a GTX 660 and then down-grading it to a Windows 7, or to get one with Windows 7 and a GeForce 620 or 640 and then replacing that card with a retail GTX 660?
And which option would be better?
Look here and found one that meets your needs and swap out the video card for the 660. I have bought several off here and they all have been great. Latest buy had a 7570 and switched it out for a 7850.
Go for the win 7 one and then add in the 660. A retail card will be better then the Dell OEM version.
Thanks. Just a side question but do you know if that version of the XPS in the "Small and Medium Business" section is good for gaming and video editing?
Yes, sorry I meant find one. These are outlet computers and are pretty much the way you see them. If you want WIN7 then try to get one in the outlet section. Find one with more RAM and a 3770 processor then change the card. I will look at the business section but for what your asking to do, more RAM (for editing) and a 2gb Video card (gaming).
If your talking about the XPS 27....NO. Very limited on what you can upgrade and no substantial video card. Go with a regular desktop and have at least some options to upgrade key componets.
Sorry, but I hate to ask another question but do you have to update the motherboard BIOS or video BIOS in order to work out the compatibility issues with install a new GPU?
Concerning the other question, what I should have said was does it matter whether I buy an XPS 8500 in the "For Home" section or the "Small Business" section or are they basically the same in terms of specs besides the fact that one comes with Win 8 and the other with Win 7 and what is customizable?
