DELL DIMENSION 5100 - CPU UPGRADE TO C2D E8400?
I have Dell Dimension 5100. Everything is stock, except GPU, Sound Card, and Cooler. I want to upgrade the CPU from Pentium 4 3ghz to Core 2 Duo E8400, but i have read forums and people say that the BIOS is older than E8400, so it wont recognize and accept it. I have A03 BIOS, its released in 2006, the E8400 in 2008, but in Dell Dimension 5100 product page its says that A03 was last updated in 2011,http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=R129666 does that mean it should recognize and accept E8400? I mean, the question is can i upgrade from P4 to C2D E8400 without upgrading the stock motherboard? Logically speaking if A03 was last updated in 2011. it should?

No.
Regards to Dual Core, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors, these are not supported and is due to the limit of the voltage regulators on the 5100 motherboard.
The following are supported:
Prescott P4 64bit 521, 2.8GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prescott P4 64bit 531, 3.0GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prescott P4 64bit 541, 3.2GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prescott P4 64bit 551, 3.4GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prescott P4 520, 2.8GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prescott P4 530, 3.0GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prescott P4 630, 3.0GHz, 800FSB, 2MB, Socket-T
Prescott P4 540, 3.2GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prescott P4 640, 3.2GHz, 800FSB, 2MB, Socket-T
Prescott P4 550, 3.4GHz, 800FSB, 1MB, Socket-T, E0
Prior to installing the processor, check that BIOS version A02, or higher is installed, when support for newer processors was added.

I can't even install a Pentium Dual, Pentium D or a Celeron on it? Just P4's?

The answer is NO.
Both the Dimension 5100 and 5100c do not support any Dual Core Processors. Only Prescott processors.
The Dimension 5100 was released by Dell in 2005.
