DELL Precision T7600 Part #s

I placed an order for the dell precision T7600. One of the options shown is a drive bay insert that goes in the 5.25" optical drive bay that instead allows you to have Four 2.5" swappable drive bays.

Does anyone know the part # of this or where I can order it? If the system comes with it by default, then no worries, but it said it was "optional", so I was guessing it is not included by default.

replace the 5.25" optical drive bay can be replaced with the four 2.5" swappable drive bays.  Here is what you need.

Ask Dell for Sku Number 331-9320 - this includes 6J8J3, R7778 and RP2K5

Everything you need is included (four 2.5 Drive caddies, the four bay cage assembly, the cable harness for the drives and two fans).  Installation Instruction can be found here: http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/04/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&docid=592276

It took me 4 weeks and several orders/returns before I got the right box.

I hope this helps

Carl

Rather than fight the Dell parts route I took the easy out.  I bought a Thermolite Max-1542 5.25 inch wide four 2.5 inch HD or SSD enclosure and installed it in the empty T7600 optical drive slot.  Check this source: www.amazon.com/.../ref=sr_1_1  This has added attraction of two cooling fans to keep hard drives cool.

You can always call Dell Spare Parts once you have the Service Tag number that comes with your system. They'll help you order the optional insert.

You have to customize a build.  That website does not seem to have the part numbers listed on the build process.

True, but in the past ChrisM provides the parts on the forum and when I call parts, I already have the code. Easier than trying to explain the part over the phone.

This picture makes it clear exactly which part I am looking for:

I just spent hours chatting with dell and not finding out much of anything.

Dell Part Number HN058 -- Bracket Assembly, Caddy Hard Drive 2.5" -- $19.99

Just might, be the plastic case that the drive slips into -- the visual portion in the above picture.  However, the box that slides into the optical bay and supports these caddies is still a mystery.

If anyone figures it out, please post even if the thread is way out of date -- "We" would all like to know.

There are 3rd party devices that fit into 1/2 height bays, but the mystery part would be taller and hence support thicker drives and have better cooling...

Anyone? ChrisM? I will call the parts department if I that is the only way, but it seemed like it would be easier to find the information here and call to order with the number already prepared.

I pinged my Dell tech contacts for assistance here.

I got the same part number on my second call with Dell Parts (HN058). However, from my previous call with them it occured to me that the assembly itself may not be sufficient: It may require cables or a power distribution board for the drives. The only thing we could find that sounded right was power cable assembly, 2.5", for 5 or more drives (T5C70). Finally, we'll also need the optical bay cover! We couldn't find anything that sounded right so I said I'd deal with that later. The dell Parts people don't have an exploded parts diagram or even pictures of the parts so they cam only go off of the cryptic description. I got an email with the parts order and am waiting for it to get approved for shipment. I'll post a follow up when I have more info.

Awesome! Fantastic job. Thanks for sharing this. I'm still waiting for the "Assembly,Filler,Optical Device Drive,5.25,Diamond,T7600 " to fill the whole left behind if your T7600 originally came with an opticla drive. I still don't know if that's the right part but Precision tech support in Florida gave me that description and part number: GU326

I ordered the filler plate: GU326  from Dell ($19.95) and for 6 weeks I got weekly delayed shipment emails from them. I finally gave up, cancelled the order, and placed a new one with PCHub ($29.95) which is in Singapore. It took them a month to get it in stock and it took DHL 2 weeks to deliver it to New Jersey but I got it and I can confirm that it's the correct part number for anyone interested.

It's actually called PChub. My mistake. Here is the link to the part: pchub.com/.../SearchItem.aspx
