DELL XPS-8300 Question about Hardware
I apologize if you folks have seen this thread before but even after searching Google/Bing, I haven't found a great answer or even close to answering what I am curious of.
I am looking into upgrading a Dell XPS 8300 Desktop and while I am aware of Video Card compatibility issues with this model of desktop, I am curious as to what else is picky?
Basically I am looking into putting in a bigger PSU (600w) as well as a different fan. While I am not a serious gamer, I would still like to at least play some of the games I have in higher graphical settings if possible, so I was leaning towards a GTX 980 specifically or a Radeon HD7950.
Is this Desktop also picky on changing out the processors such as if I wanted to upgrade to a faster one?
I apologize about all the questions but I am new to the Desktop scene of things and wanted to use this Desktop as a way to learn the components and how to install them while at the same time, not destroy the computer or waste a companies time ordering incompatible parts.
All help is greatly appreciated! Thank you kindly in advance!

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Definitely there is a checklist for every component if you want to upgrade.
All the machines are tested with particular ranges of processors, power supplies , memories and there is something called compatibility as per the tests.
Like in this model it can take a PSU of only 460W . GPU's only AMD 6 series and GTX 5 series are tested and are sure to work.
Let us know if you wish to know about processors as well.
