DELL XPS 8700 rebuild?

I plan to sort of rebuild my Dell XPS 8700 desktop... I would like a new case, new psu, and a new GPU and possibly a new cooler! I plan on getting these items

GPU: GTX 970 superclocked 4gb

Case: Sentey® Bx1-4284 Plus Gaming Computer Case

PSU: Corsair CX750 750w PSU

The main thing that I am confused about is the case... I heard the motherboard may or may not fit the case properly, and I am in need of a better case, I need better cooling also due to my house being 80 degrees in the summertime... *** to *** huh? I don't feel like buying a new AC unit just to make sure my computer doesn't melt...

So any help would be awesome, I am set on buying that PSU and GPU, but the Case is a different ball game for me... I know Dell doesn't recommend replacing cases... but I bought the computer so I want to do it! Thanks!

Thanks! - Trey [:D]

Bumping this. I believe others have moved the guts of the XPS 8700 into a new case. I would like to hear success stories. I'm thinking abou getting a Thermaltake V31.

I moved an XPS 8500 board into a new case. The front panel connections were a little different, but I figured them out; I assume the XPS 8700 has the same pin pattern.

Unless you are in love with that case, I'd shop a little more and look for one with both USB2 and USB 3 ports. It also doesn't need to be a fullsize tower since the OEM MoBo is microATX.

A case that I really like, and just purchased for $89 at new egg is the Fractal Define Refine R5.

On the PSU, I think there are better choices at that price point, or lesser priced PSUs that are equal to the CX750.  Since you said your location is hot, getting a more efficient PSU will generate less heat.

my PSU of choice for single graphics card is the Seasonic X-650 or one of the other brands built by seasonic .

I would look at this list as a starting point and research the specific unit before buying.

I got the case on sale for $35. It has 2X USB 3.0 ports in the front so no worries there.

The XPS 8700 Motherboard in the back has 4X USB 3.0 and 2X USB 2.0 ports in the back. So I'm not too worries about the ports.

But yeah, Thermaltake V31 is pretty nice and it was $35.00.

EDIT: Oh, your response was to the OP? OP abandoned thread months ago. I bumped this thread to see if anyone could tell me the F_Panel pinouts.

From my research, it's the same pinout as the XPS 8300 and 8500 since they all use the same power buttons and someone on Tom's hardware posted the pinout, which I saved as a image at my home computer.

DOH I should look more closely at the OP dates...

btw, I'm considering re-casing one of my systems for better cooling.

can you post a link to the pinout?

Dan, this is the pin out I found for the XPS 8300. The 8300, 8500 and 8700 all use the same power button from my knowledge, and the pinout here looks a lot like the power button wire hardness pinout.

I'll find out Friday if it works out or not. Please look at the second set of images where someone shows their mobo in a new case.

This is the pinout for the XPS 8500, as well.

Is there a source for that? Because that image is posted on the source I posted as well but someone else posted this.
