Dead Inspiron 400 Zino HD
I have an INSPIRON 400 Zino HD that appears to be dead. It is less than 2 years old.
When initially plugged in the box has no illumination on the power button. When the power button is pressed it momentarily flashes white (for about 0.5 sec) and then goes amber. The only sign of life after that is that the fan runs.
I know these boxes have a bed press for overheating, does this sound like the description of a cooked one? I have disassembled it and reseated whatever I can, but to no avail. There is no evidence of fluff or dust blocking the heat sink vanes of fan guard, and the fan runs fine.
Any advice on what this may be, and if it is toast, does anyone have experience of Dell's attitude towards repair/replacement of systems out of warranty but still within a reasonable life expectancy from new?
thanx

Hi philvatho,
Welcome to the community.
I understand the inconvenience that you may have experienced. Glad to assist.
It looks like the motherboard circuitry is not channelizing the power supply optimally. I understand your apprehension, but the computer should work fine after the motherboard replacement.
I assume that you are technically adept, as you’ve mentioned about you re-assembling the whole system. In case you still need any further support with the same, please use the link: http://tinyurl.com/7hkwvy2

Is the power button solid or blinking amber?
Solid amber: There may be a problem with either the system board or the power supply.
Blinking amber: There may be a problem with the system board.
Since this is a Zino 400, I assume you have the add-in video card. Look at the links on this page and confirm that your system has the video card heat sink and video card fan installed since the absence of either of these could cause overheating and a parts failure.
You can find a brand new Zino minus CPU, Memory, Optical Drive or Wireless Card for $120 or bare Zino motherboards for $70 here.
