Dell 5.1 surround sound 5650 very quiet speakers

Jump to solution

Hi all.

Im a total noob to all this so be gental lol.

Ive been given a dell 9150 and the dell 5650 5.1 surround sound.  Ive connected everything up as per the manual but i have to hold a speaker up to an ear just to hear the music.  Ive checked in the device manager and i have a Sigmatel high definition audio codec version 5.10.0.4823 driver installed.  In the control panel all the volume levels are highest and the sound bar on the bottom of the monitor is also all the way clock wise.  All the speaker connections are in and the 3 x 3.5mm jacks are in the correct order.  The integrated sound card is also set to on in the BIOS.  I do know the jacks and sound card are working as another set of speakers works fine.  I might be missing something thats an easy fix.  Any help will be much appreciated.

This is my system set up:

Dell dimension 9150

microsoft xp professional version 2002 SP3 with intel pentium 4 ht.

Many thanks in advance

Neil

Hi Neil,

Dell Dimension 9150 supports 7.1 surround sound via its onboard sound codec. You have to connect the Green pin to the Green port, Black pin to the Black port and the Yellow pin from the speaker to the Yellow port.

You will have to select 5.1 speakers in the Creative Media Audio Software and check the Synchronize with Control Panel option. Adjust the volume for each speaker in the Surround Mixer.

Hi Blade1981,

Thank you for your reply. I am sorry to inform you that the Creative Media Audio Software works only Creative Sound Blaster sound card. You have to select 5.1 speakers in the IDT control panel, as you have a Sigmatel Audio Codec. I overlooked this information and suggested you to use Creative Media Audio Software. Please let me know if the issue has been resolved by replying to this message.
