Dell 8920 Freezing Desktop Query

I have been running a Dell 8920 for a month now (i7, 1070 graphics, 256SDD, Windows 10) really pleased with performance etc but for some reason the desktop freezes then I get a blank screen though mouse pointer still visible and can move, Ctrl-Alt-Del does not work so only way to fix is hold power button 4 secs to force shutdown then restart as normal. Has anyone else experiences this please?

Go to NVidia's site and look for the latest driver for your card and version of Windows. Uninstall the current driver in Device Manager, and then install the new one...

Thank you for that, will do. Fault has only appeared last couple of days nothing showing diagnostics, did show following APPCrash caused by Explorer.exe.

Hi, still having the desktop freeze followed by black screen, I can predict when this is about to happen when some software fails to load, right clicking on desktop then left click display settings seems to reset something and all is ok if I am quick enough, as I say infrequent and random, to me anyway.

I have upgraded my 1070 graphics drivers with the Nvida recommended drivers via Geforce Experience (loaded a by Dell) not the graphics drivers on Dell Update which seem quite out of date and wondered if that may be the problem?

Thanks you in advance for advice. Other than that the 8920 is excellent.

Did you also update the Intel HD Graphics driver too, even though you have the 1070 card?

Reboot and immediately press F12. Look for option to run diagnostics and run RAM and extended HDD tests. Be patient because this could take a long time. Copy error messages, if any...

Thanks Ron, will do, in meantime ran 1070 test within Dell Support assist and all passed other than:

Shader Rendering DX10 (DX11 fine) said cannot run poss driver problem and failed Primary Surface Test error code WVC07-LC2 error pixel 1852-1165 input color / output color different, Intel driver latest. My 1070 is later version than that on Dell support driver site. Sam
