Dell Data Safe Emergency Folder
I got the blue screen of death on my Windows 7 which kept restarting the computer over and over again. I could only work in safe mode and was unable to burn any music or pictures to a disc, so i used the Dell Data Safe and restored the computer back to factory settings. It had created the emergency file in the process but now that everything is said and done the emergency file is not on the computer. It was supposed to be saved to the C drive-not there. I enter "emergency" under search and nothing comes up. Is there ANY way to find my files? Its the pictures that I am most concerned/upset about. Please help!! The only positive is that it did fix the computer and no more blue screen.

Welcome to Dell Community Forum.
The Windows.old folder that contains the files from your previous Operating system should exist on the computer. After re-installing Windows, the previous data is generally saved in the Windows.old folder in the C:\ drive. You can click Start and type C:\windows.old. Sometimes the files and folder are hidden and you need to uncheck the "Hide" Option.
Make sure you can see the Windows.old folder with the following steps:
1. Click Start, type: hidden
2. Click "Show hidden files and folders"
3. Click to select "Show hidden files and folders"
4. Uncheck the next three items:
Hide empty drives
Hide extensions from known file types
Hide protected operating system files
5. Click OK and look for the folder
(Note: after you are done, go back and recheck "Hide protected operating system files." If you want to change the other settings again, you can do so.)

so, i was able to follow your instructions but nothing showed up. so i re-started the computer and when i did that it started with the blue screen and the automatic restart again. so now i have no pictures, and no computer to use. do you know how to rectify the blue screen? i felt like the factory settings was my last resort but i am not real computer savvy.

Please let us know the Stop Error Code you see when you get the Blue Screen. It may be possible that the Factory Restore was not successful. Please click on the links below for helpful information on resolving the issue you are facing wiht the computer.

so, i re-did the factory settings and it worked, but when i restarted the computer it started and then the blue screen with stop code 0x0000001E came back up. it does boot up to the windows screen

Hi,
Sorry it has taken me awhile, with out the computer it is hard to check my emails. Thank you for the links but i do not see the stop code listed. i got 2 of them: 0x0000000A & 0x0000001E. I will try to re-install factory settings but please let me know what you find with the stop codes. thank you

A "STOP 0x0000001E KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" error message indicates that an error condition was detected by the kernel and Windows NT was unable to continue running because of this error condition. Please click on the Microsoft link below for helpful information on this error code and steps to troubleshoot it.

Try updating the drivers and run the hardware diagnostics, as mentioned in the link above, by clicking on the links below. Select the operating system prior to downloading and installing the drivers:

so do you know if i do this if i will lose the music and pics that are somewhere hidden on the hard drive? should i try to retrieve them first and how would that be done?
