I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and for some reason my computer won't let me change my resolution. It is stuck on 640 x 480, and it looks TERRIBLE!!! Can anybody tell me how to fix this problem, because I barely know ANYTHING about these things. emoticon.Confused.title

" 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Chipset Graphic Driver Version 126.96.36.19942 For Windows 7 "
on my Demension 2400 AND Solved the whole Graphics Driver mess created by
the "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" Windows 7 automatically installs.
I used Philip Yip's "Unofficial Windows Installation Guide"
to install it VIA the Device Manager as he suggested.
Ya saved me!
You need to install the driver for the Video Card. Because Dell didn't release Windows 7 drivers, you will have to manually install the XP driver.
If you download and install 7zip (32 bit .msi file).
Then you may create a new folder on the desktop or on the C: drive. Copy the drivers from the dell website (R96001, R106456, R79733 & R86399) into it.
Then press [Windows] and [Pause|Break] to open the system properties window. On this screen next select Device manager.
Go to display adaptors
Left click the arrow beside display adaptors, right click your device and select update driver software...
Select browse my computer for driver software and select the folder on the desktop or c: drive where you put the drivers in. Then select next, next, finish.
Then reboot. See if things are any better.
Welcome to the Dell Community.
I understand that you have upgraded the OS from Windows XP to Windows 7. However, I would like to inform you that this upgrade is not recommended as the Dimension system is one of the older computers and Windows 7 requires more resources for it to run properly on a computer. Yet, please try these steps and let me know of the outcome.
An alternative is to buy a discrete video card like the Sparkle 8400GS, which has native Windows 7 drivers.
Where can I find R79733
I went into the Drivers and Downloads section and downloaded three of the drivers but I couldn't find R79733...
Have you tried the compatibility mode or the manual install?
The file should extract to C:\Dell\Drivers\R106456
In this folder there should be a setup.exe you will need to right click that and select the compatability mode to XP, then run the setup.exe
