Dell Dimension 2400 will not power up

Jump to solution

i just acquired a Dell Dimension 2400 withh a 2.40ghz celeron hdd model # MTC2 ,

I cannot get this little system up and running at all.I have replaced the power supply 3 times with like P.S.'s.

When i plug in the P.S.i get a green light on the p.s.itself and i also get a green light on the MOBO next to the 20 pin connector on the MOBO itself. There are no lights in the rear of the box i:e A,B,C,D No lights at all.I tested the main fan in another pc i have and it started up right away with no problems to report.I tested the battery and replaced it just to be on the safe side.

I replaced the RAM memory to no avail.everything checks out ok with the ram. There are no

problems there.

I replaced the original 40 gb HDD and i found there is something wrong with the HDD so i replaced it with a like HDD just a little bigger SO ITS An 80 gb HDD which works very well in my other p.c's.So i am at a crossroad whereas i don't know where to go from here with this system.

I disconnected every peripheral except for the HDD and i also tried to power up the unit with nothing else connected except hdd and i also disconnected the HDD whereas the only peripheral connected was the fan,the HDD.I also checked the main fan on another pc and she works flawlessly.

So i think i have covered all my bases and i am praying someone out there can help me with this problem.

Thank you in advance for your help with this issue as my family and i are very grateful for anyone's assistance especially my young boys with their games!!

Remember i got no lights on the front of the box nor the back

Assuming that you replaced the power supply with a compatible Dimension 2400 'known' working unit.

Are there any 'Beeps'?

If you are comfortable working around computers, you could try the following:

As the power supply was replaced with a 'known' working unit, remove the power cord, hold the power button in for several seconds to discharge the residue power.

Remove all the PCI cards, the video card [if applicable], memory, all peripherals, disconnect the data and power cables to all the drives, check that the front panel cable is connected to motherboard, with nothing else connected to the system, reconnect the power cable and power the system on.

If there is no difference in the diagnostic lights, 'Beep' codes and/or the LED indication of the power button, then it would appear that the motherboard has died and/or maybe the processor.

Note: The good news is, processors rarely fail, as the only method I know of checking a processor, is to install it a compatible working PC, or use a known working processor.

The Dimension 2400 Owners Manual,Troubleshooter and Diagnostic Guide, is here:

Hi shesagordie,

Ok i went thru every aspect of your email to no avail.

The power supply is of the same that came out of the problem system.\

There are no beeps codes and/or the LED indication of the power button.

I also tested the RAM in a dell dimension 3000 and they are good.

I also replaced the battery CR2032 nothing happens.

I will replace the processor and get back to you.

Thanks alot!!

Sounds like a motherboard issue.

Please note: The only 100% method of testing a PSU, is to install a known working power supply.

You are welcome, but it's a bummer about the motherboard.
