Dell Dimension 4700 Series, Diagnostic Lights are: (Flashing Y/G,Y,G,G)

I have bought a brand new 2GB ram for this computer just today and tried installing it to see if that would fix my problem and still no luck. I have been messing with this computer for at least four days and it's really frustrating me. Could I please have some help with this situation.

Oh and as said in the Subject the diagnostic lights are as followed: (Flashing)Yellow/Yellow/Green/Green

Thanks in advance,

David

Anything else you need to know please ask. Thanks for your help.

Yes the previous installed memory was the stock 256mb RAM sticks (2)

So I'm really hoping it's not the motherboard... Is there any other solution you would/could recommend?

Alright sooooo since I ended up getting the 2gb module for ONE slot it's not going to work period?... Instead if I want 2gb's I have to get two 1gb modules and install them in the DIMM 1 & 2?

And for the diagnostic light colors are as followed:

A = Flashing Green/Yellow

B = Yellow

C = Green

D = Green

Thanks for both of your guys help.

And you got the same error with the previously installed memory?

Hi David,

Those lights indicate a memory problem. Can you tell me exactly what the new RAM is?

I have a problem.. I bought two 1GB RAM sticks from Staples..

The same brand, the same type (DDR2) and all that stuff..

My "A" diagnostic light is still flashing! I'm losing my mind here.

Will someone please help me before I freak out.

DDR2 PC2-6400 is not supported on this model. Either 400-MHz (PC2-3200) DDR2 unbuffered SDRAM non-ECC or 533-MHz (PC2-4300) DDR2 unbuffered SDRAM non-ECC. What are the specifications of the two 1GB sticks you bought?
