Dell Dimension 8300 - Not Detecting IDE Devices

Hi,

I have a dell dimension 8300 that is not detecting drives. i have tried different drive/cable combo's and tried CS, Master/Slave setups as well.

i can't imagine both ide ports going bad. this computer is equipped with sata ports in addition to ide.

am i missing a setting somewhere? maybe a jumper on mobo?

it has to be something stupid.

I have a very similiar problem.  Mine does not detect the CD-ROM drives.  I don't use the primary IDE channel for HDD as I have a RAID controller card installed and the HDD's connect to it.  They show up in the BIOS OK but windows doesn't know about them.  If you get an answer please post it back here.  Sorry I couldn't help out.

Hi,

Is the Optical drive is getting detected in the BIOS. Check in the Device manager [Run command - devmgmt.msc]. If you find any yellow exclamation in the device manager - Then Run this Fix it. If ther is no drive detected in the Device manger try booting thro the os disk - if booted fine. Do a data backup and reinstall the Windows.

Problem is solved.  I went here:

and ran the fix it utility.  After reboot, exclamation points went away.

Thanks,
